If you prefer vegan or vegetarian food, there are plenty of opportunities to find great green restaurants in Barcelona. The city has several established vegetarian restaurants and new ones are popping up on the streets of Barcelona.
1 Rasoterra
Located in one of the narrow streets in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, Rasoterra is one of the top vegan restaurants in Barcelona. It serves delicious dishes with personality for those who are vegan, vegetarian or omnivores, as the owners of the restaurant so directly describe it.
Rasoterra is a bistro and their philosophy is based on three pillars: Planet, Produce and People. This means that there is a focus on sustainability throughout the entire process. From using high quality, seasonal, local and organic ingredients to having good conditions for employees.
The space is brightly decorated with a large long table, a long bench with smaller tables around it and a bar. There is art on the walls and the style is simple and rustic.
Plant-based, local ingredients are conjured into simple, tasty dishes that are presented beautifully on the plate, without fuss.
The a la carte menu includes snacks like vegetarian croquetas and starters like ceviche and grilled maitake mushrooms. Main courses include whole grain rice dish with zucchini, sage, cauliflower tempura and zucchini mayo, stuffed eggplant with crispy chickpeas, spiced with marsala and curry, and Rasoterra’s version of the Catalan dish fideuà with noodles.
Dessert options include chocolate truffles with salted caramel and a cherry dessert set with cherry ice cream, coffee, rum caramel and crumble.
The menu changes with the seasons, so I cannot guarantee that these dishes will be on the menu when you visit Rasoterra.

2 Roots & Rolls
Roots & Rolls has been on the lips of many vegetarian lovers after winning the title of “most remarkable or innovative” restaurant in the Barcelona Restauración Award in November 2023.
The jury chose Roots & Rolls because their concept is unique and because, in addition to adding Asian flavors to Barcelona’s green cuisine, they also manage to fill the restaurant with joy and creativity.
Roots & Rolls opened in 2018 in the Eixample neighborhood and is run by Danish Sandra de Jong and Erik van Leeuwen. The concept is Japanese/Asian heritage with a touch of international flavors. As a principle, the products used must have had a root, and Root & Rools’ philosophy is that plant-based food should taste better than conventional food.
If you’re vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian, gluten-allergic or just want a healthy meal, there’s something for you.
The restaurant is the largest plant-based restaurant in Barcelona and has a bright and minimalist design with a Nordic touch reminiscent of Sandra de Jong’s roots. There are also smaller, private rooms where you can dine in small groups or host parties.
The menu changes every month. Root & Rolls’ absolute bestseller is the vegan sushi, which goes from kitchen to table as fast as freshly baked bread. You can choose from rolls such as tempeh, nigiri, maki and geisha with fruits, vegetables, spices, mushrooms, wakame and cashew cheese. You can buy the rolls individually or choose a sushi menu.
You can also get different salads like ceviche with oyster mushrooms and avocado, as well as cauliflower popcorn, ramen miso and pad thai with rice noodles, roots, tofu and nuts.
For dessert, you can get deconstructed lemon tart or chocolate avocado brownie.
Roots & Rolls offers two different tasting menus, one epic and one luxury including drinks, where you can choose from house wine, cava, beer and soft drinks. For groups, a special group menu is available.
On the drinks menu, Roots & Rolls also has sake, vermouth and a selection of cocktails.

3 Teresa Carles
In a quiet side street in Barcelona’s multicultural Raval neighborhood, you’ll find Teresa Carles, one of the classic vegetarian restaurants in Barcelona. It is named after the owner, who has been a pioneer of green food in the city.
At the entrance, the first thing you’ll see is a large counter full of produce and vegetarian dishes. Here you can buy vegetarian takeaway. However, I would recommend that you move to the back where you can enjoy Teresa’s food in cozy, calm surroundings with dim lighting.
The menu includes both vegan and vegetarian dishes, with a selection of salads, appetizers such as vegetarian croquetas, vegetarian paté and tempura, and soups. Main courses include various pasta dishes, mini burgers, risotto and Teresa Carles’ popular eggplant miellefeuille. The eggplant is rolled around a mushroom and cheese filling and served on a bed of tomato sauce.
You can try Teresa Carle’s eggplant roll recipe yourself when you’re not near the restaurant.
For dessert, you can choose from apple cake, Catalan cheesecake, vegan cake and fruit salad.
As Teresa Carles is very successful with her freshly squeezed juices, with good reason, I recommend you try one of them.
Teresa’s flexitarian restaurant, Flax & Kale, also located in Raval, is also worth a visit. It’s especially popular for brunch.

4 The Green Spot
Step into an elegant world of oak panels, soft earth-toned chairs, wooden tables and lush green plants.
The Green Spot is located in the Barceloneta neighborhood of the Port of Barceloneta.
The restaurant is owned by Tragaluz Grupo, which has several restaurants in Barcelona, Madrid and Mallorca.
The spacious, vaulted ceilings are a quiet break from the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood.
The vegetarian food is simple, honest and tasty, served in versions that vegetarians can easily invite their meat eaters to join them.
On the menu you’ll find a variety of salads including cabbage and quinoa or burrata, fig and tomato.
Also try the recommended fried cauliflower with mint and tamarind sauce.
There is also a selection of pasta dishes, including tagliatelle with truffle and cannelloni with spinach, ricotta and parmesan.
The menu also offers a nice selection of pizzas, including one vegan and one (really good) with four cheeses, Jerusalem artichokes and squash blossoms. For dessert, you can choose from chocolate tart with caramel and pistachio and homemade vegan ice cream.
The Green Spot has a limited selection of wines by the glass, but there is a larger, and excellent, selection of local bottled wines and craft beers. There is also a selection of freshly squeezed juices.
