ApartEasy offers holiday apartments in different locations in Barcelona. I checked into a modern holiday apartment in a corner of the Eixample neighbourhood, from where you can step straight out into a charming and relatively tourist-free area of Barcelona.
Location
The apartment I tested is called Eixample Center Deluxe Executive and is located in a residential area, on Villarroel street, in the Eixample neighbourhood, on the edge of the upcoming San Antoni district.
The neighbourhood is liberatingly tourist-free, although it’s just a 10-15 minute walk from the Rambla. There are plenty of cosy cafés, restaurants, tapas bars, tea and coffee shops, fun little boutiques and only a three-minute walk to the nearest metro station.
You can breathe in the neighbourhood atmosphere on the small balcony that comes with the apartment.
Style and decor
The holiday apartment at Villarroel is set in an old manor house from the early 1900s, which is typical of the neighbourhood. ApartEasy has several apartments in the building, and I got one on the 3rd floor.
I stayed in an apartment with an open-plan living room and kitchen and a bedroom with a double bed and two bunk beds. The apartment has been modernised with a new kitchen and bathroom and new tiled floors throughout. Some of the building’s fine old features are highlighted by leaving the classic Spanish curved ceilings and parts of the walls in rough brick. The style is light and Scandinavian, with contrasts like Spanish tiles on a flat in the living room and a red leather sofa.
The double bed is of good quality and I slept super well in it. Details like lighting have been thought of, which is not a given in Spain. In many places, fluorescent tubes are alive and well. The Villarroel apartment has small lamps on the walls and ceiling, so you can adjust the atmosphere of the apartment to suit your needs.
I didn’t test the bunk beds, which were discreetly hidden behind a nice screen because I wasn’t going to use them, but they seemed to have good mattresses too.
The kitchen is small, but it has everything you need for a four-person holiday. And there’s still room for a dishwasher.
The bathroom is not one of the largest, but there is an excellent shower cubicle and a table under the sink with plenty of space for toiletries, as well as plenty of towels in the apartment.
Facilities
The apartment has a roof terrace with pool, shared with the other apartments in the building. The lounge area is large and inviting, and a great place to enjoy a drink or coffee with a great view of the neighbourhood.
The pool belongs to the small ones, and it’s not the one where you can keep fit by swimming 20 lanes. But it’s fine for a cool dip in the summer heat, and the water is clean. There are also sun loungers by the pool so you can soak up the sun.
The roof terrace closes at 10pm for neighbourly reasons, and parties are not allowed up there earlier in the day.
Services
The apartments have really good WiFi connection, which is included in the price. And there is laundry on the first floor of the building, shared by all the apartments, and laundry is also included.
I appreciated the thought put into details like washing powder (located in each apartment) as well as dishcloths, tea towels and tea towels. This is rare when renting holiday apartments in Spain.
The apartment is cleaned every 7 days, with towels and bed linen changed.
Prices
The Eixample Center Deluxe Executive apartment costs from 67 euros per night for 2 people.
Assessment:
ApartEasys holiday apartment at Villaroel is really well located, away from the main tourist hubs. I tested several of the restaurants and cafes in the area and they were really good. Despite Villaroel being a relatively busy street, the apartment was quiet.
The holiday apartment was impeccably clean, well furnished and functional. And with a modern and neat interior, balcony to the apartment and roof terrace, it really is a find for the price in Barcelona.
