Have you strolled through Bilbao’s Notting Hill? ⁠ ⁠ As you walk through the streets of Kirikiño, Zuberoa, and Baiona in the Iralabarri neighborhood of Bilbao, you’ll be greeted by a series of picturesque, colorful houses. Not without reason, these streets have earned the nickname Bilbao’s Notting Hill.⁠ ⁠ The houses were built around 1916 and were inspired by English garden cities but with a Basque twist. They consist of both detached and terraced houses and have their own courtyards and gardens.⁠ ⁠ Behind the construction was Juan José Irala, who owned the legendary bakery Harino-Panadera and a flour mill. The houses became a haven for his workers to live in. The bakery has long since closed, but it is said that when it existed, the whole neighborhood smelled of freshly baked bread.⁠ ⁠ ⁠ ⁠ 🇩🇰 Har du slentret gennem Bilbao’s Notting Hill?⁠ ⁠ Når du går gennem gaderne Kirikiño, Zuberoa og Baiona, i kvarteret Iralabarri i Bilbao bliver du mødt af en række maleriske, farvestrålende huse. Gaderne har ikke uden grund har fået kælenavnet Bilbaos Notting Hill.⁠ ⁠ Husene er bygget i årene omkring 1916 og inspireret af de engelske havebyer, men er også tilføjet et baskisk præg. Are you a fan of cycling? And do you watch the Vuelta a España? 🚵‍♀️ 🇪🇸⁠ ⁠ Then you might know the Lakes of Covadonga. Along the road towards and around the lakes, you can spot the names of professional cyclists written in yellow in several places. The area with the lakes is part of the route in the Vuelta a España, so it’s also visited by many cycling fans.⁠ ⁠ If you enjoy hiking, there are numerous trails in the Picos de Europa. The circular route around the Lakes of Covadonga, which can be completed by the whole family, consists of a short (3 kilometers) and a long (5 kilometers) trail.
